Black Girlhood, Joy, and the Memories Behind My Latest Painting

This painting is deeply connected to memories of my own childhood—a time filled with happiness, freedom, family, and friends.

The little girl sits peacefully in a field of wildflowers as the warmth of the sun shines down on her. She looks toward the viewer with a smile that represents the joy and innocence of childhood.

As I work on this piece, I think about Black girlhood and the beauty of being able to simply exist in a moment of happiness, wonder, and peace. I wanted her to feel carefree and surrounded by the beauty of nature, with the sunlight representing hope, warmth, and possibility.

There is also something personal in this painting. It reminds me of the child I once was—the memories of family, friendships, laughter, and days when life seemed simple.
